New York City has prioritized the transformation of its waterfront, creating a promising vision for its future. The Riparian project supports the City’s goals, aiming to reclaim our relationship with water and the built environment in a way that balances environmental, economic and societal functions. An important component of this effort is reconnecting people with the waterfront: improving access to the water, expanding efficient and environmentally responsible water-based transportation, providing opportunities for recreational water activities and increasing education and awareness. Additionally, opportunities are identified for water quality improvement, brownfield remediation, energy creation, and clean technology.
